It's hard to think up titles!

Copyright HKJ

I've not found much time so far this year for my own drawing work :( but here are two I did find time for. One for my Friend Hitomi and another whilst dreaming of spring and summers arrival. Unfortunately the colour value is off in these uploads and they don't look as nice (too dark and drab)…I'll have to work that out!

This Year….in cakes :D

Kendo

 Copyright HKJ

A kendo charity event design I was lucky enough to be tasked with. The event raises money for macmillan and maggies cancer care.
I think this is the third ever kendo image I've done (all of which in the last year)... it's pretty shameful considering I've been doing kendo for nearly 8 years now (gosh) and it's a rather important fixture in my life.

BAF IDENT 2013 with the incredible JOANNA QUINN

YAY!!!!!!!A few months back I was extremely lucky to work on this Ident with the incredible Joanna Quinn again. This time was extra special as it was working on Jo's personal character "Beryl" (not Charmin bears ;D) and working from her amazing rough artwork....swoon.
It was both wonderful and very scary animating and in-betweening again....especially as Jo's work is so very beautiful and ridiculously three dimensional. When Jo handed me THE HAND scene to rough animate...I felt the blood drain from my face, I started to sweat, then came the shaking profusely and tears that I cried silently inside...the dog animation thankfully was far more straight forward. My mantra for the entire time was "don't balls this up, don't balls this up, whatever you do don't balls this up". I feel very privileged and proud to have been a part of this and had a fab time working for Jo back at the studio.

Here are some stills (Copyright Joanna Quinn/ BAF)

Cakes, cakes and more cakes.....

 Copyright HKJ

With yet another birthday cake to make, I decided that it would make thing even more special if I were to design original characters for the decoration. This one was particularly fun....dinosaurs having a party.

The image below was part of a gift to mum from my sister and I, to be exact a "morning of coffee, cake and birthday celebrations with her splendid daughters". I had so much fun drawing the cakes.........it was almost as good as eating them!

I really love Halloween, so much in fact that I put real work aside for a day or maybe two, to draw and colour these in. I had several more ideas but as usual ran out of time due to poor planning. NUTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

LIES all LIES

On closer inspection of my work room and desktop...it appears I have been lying! I have been very very busy, but it seems in that after weeks of spending 15 hours a day at my desk in a delirious state, I have actually done some creative things:

My mum and I have made more celebration cakes (these are two of our favourites from the past month):

I stitched a rainbow to hang on the wall with my sun and rain cloud. This was a pain in the arse to make and I made a hash of numerous pieces of fabric in it's creation...idiot:

Oh...and I also had my work on the television this week alongside Steffan Rhodri (a Welsh actor of 'Gavin + Stacey' and 'Harry Potter' fame). The illustrations are part of a storytelling series called Straeon Ty Pen, broadcast on the welsh channel s4c (there are subtitles thanks goodness). I've worked on lots of projects later aired on television...but this was special... it being my art work rather than my work just being a tiny cog in theproduction machine. This was the first of four I worked on....so I'll pop up the others as they are shown.

I've been really busy of late with work and haven't had much time to draw for myself. BOO hiss. I love drawing fungi, so decided to do another group of shrooms who are lacking the 'fun'-gi of the original image I posted a few months back. It made me chuckle as I worked on it anyway!

Ooh...I also did this...

A doodle of myself...please note artist license has been taken advantage of in the creation of this image (particularly in the slimming of my neck and shoulders).

School TIme....

Back to school and the new to school. The little people heading to school for the first time really made me smile last week with their gigantic rucksacks and oversized uniform....so I doodled this and did a very quick colouring job.

Pencil meet Cintiq...Cintiq meet pencil!!!!!! My pencils have been feeling neglected of late, so I guiltily picked them up and turned off the Cintiq until colouring time. Also, this year I've been drawing lots of children and images for children...so I decided it was time to spend some time drawing ladies again. Here is the first of many to come (I hope)!

Cintiq...A Toy For Grown Ups.

Copyright HKJ

I have been extremely fortunate to become the proud owner of a Cintiq...a toy for grown ups. I've been more than happy enough with my mini bamboo wacom tablet over the last few years, however with the times changing and more jobs needing to be done digitally, I felt it was time to finally get one. These are two of my first attempts from start to finish on the Cintiq and I must say, it's been most enjoyable.

Stitching Summer

Copyright HKJ

I fancied doing some stitching last week and made a sun...with an hour of starting it the lovely weather we've been having changed to a grey downpour. Thankfully it brightened back up for our break in London. Today it was miserable rain, so I decided to make a rain cloud in the hope that the sun would return...guess what...it did!!!!!!!
